Blood Drive
Blood Drives are community service projects that are held by the students of the E-commerce Marketing Academy along with the people of North West Florida Blood Services. Our goal during these Blood Drives is to collect enough units of blood to sustain the quota in the local hospitals.
Donor Eligibility Requirements
●Must be 16 years old.(16-year old donors require written parental permission. No upper age limit as long as healthy.)
●Must have Photo I.D.
●Must weigh at least 110 pounds.
●Must have not had Hepatitis after the 11th birthday
●Must feel well on the day of the donation
●No pregnancy within the past six weeks
●No blood transfusion in the past year
●Cancer survivors may only have to wait 12 months form their last treatment or removal of cancer.
●Heart Disease or Heart Medication: you may be able to donate
●Diabetes: Ok to donate if it is diet-controlled or you are taking oral medications. Insulin injections under 80 units per dose are acceptable if you have had a meal before donating.
●If you have been told you are anemic, let us check your iron; it may be high enough for you to donate.
●Blood Pressure Medication: Ok to donate.
●Aspirin: Ok to donate; just let us know if it has been within the last 72 hours.
●Antibiotics: Last dose must be taken 24 hours before donating.
●Travel to malarial area: must wait one year before donating
●Must not have had a non-sterile tattoo in the past year.
Blood Facts
●Approximately every three seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood
●90% of the population will require at least one blood transfusion by the age of 70
only 5% of the U.S. population donates blood
●Fourteen tests are performed on each unit of donated blood.
●If all blood donors gave one more time, it would prevent blood shortages.
Day of Donation
●Drink water but avoid caffeinated beverages that tend to dehydrated you
●Eat a good meal, but not too heavy, 2-3 hours prior to donating.
●Drink a bottle of water half an hour before you plan to donate.
